Founded on the shores of Lake Superior in spectacular Marquette County, Michigan, parent company Mycota Standards embarked on a path to properly reveal a magical natural substance that would forever impact the health of mankind.
In 2006, fitness trainer David Derouin II had built his name around gym management and personal training in South-Central Arizona. “I love training, I’ve trained moms to athletes and athletes to professionals, keeping in mind everyone is motivated differently in obtaining varying goals.” After years of fine tuning his skills, and practice as a fitness Coach, David realized not all clients would simply have 100% success in reaching their goals. As a perfectionist, this often left David unsatisfied, feeling he was letting a small percentage of his clients down.
“I felt as if there were something more and magnificent that I needed to do to help those in need.” In 2014, David left Arizona, setting his compass to home in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where he began pursuing a degree from NMU while training locally. One morning during studies, David received a call from his mother stating an emergent issue had arisen. His father had suffered from a condition known as Bells Palsey (facial paralysis). Counseling hospital physicians stated David’s father would require a cocktail of prescriptions. Being a Health advocate, David’s father frowned upon taking medication but was informed that without it, recovery would take a minimum 18 months, if he recovered at all. After leaving the hospital, David’s father reached out to his former US Air Force co-workers, one of whom spoke about a polypore mushroom called Chaga. Father and son developed a tea brew from this particular specimen, which David’s father drank a gallon of every day. Week by week his facial movement began to return, and less than three months later his father fully recovered. David could not stop there. He now had the drive to explore Chaga in depth with an aim of creating something to benefit the world.
In 2016, David and investors held a meeting in Marquette County that would fuel the birth of a company, a Michigan company that would not only create superior products, but products that were of quality, precision, safety, and desire. “We wanted to create a product that could tell a story. A story of how its spotlight ingredients were harvested from the northern Michigan forests, a story that spoke of the trial and error in discovering the perfect ingredients of a recipe. And of the quality assurance invested in testing and maintaining product consistency. We wanted a product that people could use and actually notice beneficial change.” Mycota Standards strives for continual improvement through research, development, and elite manufacturing. Mycota Standards officially released their premier brand ‘Yooper Chaga’ in 2017.
